Onion Harvesting, Whoops!

After reading about onion growing and harvesting I realized we should have not let the onions flower. Although you can pick onions at any stage, if you want to properly cure them for storage you should not let them flower. Needless to say, I did not read about this before it was important but I still cut down the flowers in hopes that the onions will bulb in the next couple weeks and we can harvest them to cure. Here is a photo of the delightful bouquet in my apartment.

Service Raleigh Day

On Saturday March 26th the NCSU Black Finesse Modeling Dance Troupe helped us clear brush and edge garden beds. We created an 8 foot tall mound of sticks bundles and ate 5 X-large pizzas. Yes, I would say we were working hard.

Plots gardeners also came out and prepared their plots for plantings.

Thanks to everyone that helped out! I think we will grow great things this year.

A gift from the garden

Remember all the good things (fresh produce, flowers, sweat beads on foreheads) we received from the garden last year? Please consider volunteering this season. We need help with watering and weeding and would love for folks to come forward and dedicate some time.

Please contact Ana or I and we can place you on the watering schedule!

This weekend's workday was great

This weekend's workday was great. Yesterday we:

- finished weeding the rest of the beds
- planted a bunch of flower and herb seeds
- boxed in one of the front beds
- finished the bulletin board

We also had our first visit from one of the folks who will be gardening an individual plot, and met a bunch of new neighbors who want to become Wedge gardeners! Special thanks to the families who came out yesterday to help with watering and show us cool green composting techniques.

See y'all at the big Service Raleigh workday next weekend--details to come!
