Neighborhood Volunteers Needed for Watering Garden

The summer is here and we need folks in the neighborhood to help water the garden before the June drought hits us. We need about 4 more people.  Anyone interested, please email thewedgegarden@googlegroups.com

Finally Got Wood Chips. How? Don’t Ask.

Giovanni spotted a house in the neighborhood with wood chips. We both stopped by to ask if we can have them. The stranger said, “sure.”  So on Sunday Craig and I made an attempt with the large green recycling bins. We filled each one up, and rolled them across Park to the garden. Here’s Craig rolling one. It looks easy, but it wasn’t. After three trips, I gave up. The heat and hunger kicked in.

Monday afternoon with 3 more helpers, we tried again. This time with success. Thanks to Vincenzo who happen to just pass by in his manual handy pickup truck, we made 3 trips with the last one being the most productive. We made two piles. One in the garden and one in the back. If you are coming to the garden, bring cardboard and/or old clothes for the pathways before we spread the wood chips.

What’s up with the Italian names?

So a volunteer this weekend asked why does everyone at the garden have an Italian name?  Well it all started out as a joke with Giovanni last summer during the corn porn video. John has been “Giovanni” since. In fact he loves his name so much that he even gave himself an Italian last name. We’ve all decided, if you want to be a member of the garden, you have to go thru the right of passage with acquiring an Italian name. Now you can’t name yourself. Francesco, who is not a member and refuses to step into the garden with his new sneakers only gets to name you. Are you looking to become a member? Come by any Saturday morning and acquire a name.

Samosas with Mimosas Garden Day

We had another successful gardening day on Saturday. Laziz Biryani donated samosas and Jessica (who was not able to attend) provided a sparkling pear juice to go well with the OJ to make the mimosas. With the help of some new members/volunteers  we were able to:

*Got rid of an old futon that was dumped in the back of the shed (Thank you Emelia * Alexandra);
*Organized all the wood that was in front of the shed (Thank you Vincenzo);
*Cleaned out the containers in the back of the shed (Thank you Vincenzo);
*Weeded most of the section north of the kidney bad (Thank you Laura (we need an Italian name for Laura) and Julia):
*Wrenn as always did a fantastic job watering the entire garden.

Samosa and Mimosa Work Day Scheduled

Mark your calendars now for the Wedge Garden's Samosa and Mimosa Clean-up-Behind-the-Shed Work Day, Saturday, May 18th (rain date May 19). We'll get started in the morning about 9ish (more or less) and carry on until the area behind the shed is totally tidy. Laziz Biryani (Pakistani restaurant) on Avent Ferry will be donating samosas to keep us going--and what better to drink with our samosas than mimosas? Please join us! And please let us know if you plan to come so we can make sure to have plenty of refreshments for all.
