Good Use for Wood Chips

The free wood chips are a great resource for the garden.  Wood chip mulch insulates the soil, prevents weeds and helps retain soil moisture.  Hardwood chips, such as oak and hickory, last longer because they break down more slowly. By look of the giant tree that was torn down, we believe these are oak tree wood chips. “It's best to apply wood chip mulch in early summer, after planting but before the soil temperature becomes overly warm.”  Perfect timing for us.


This weekend we applied wood chips to some areas, but not all.  If you are at the garden and want something to do, feel free apply wood chips like show in the photo below. 


3 lbs or Larger Pots Needed

If you have extra 3 lbs or large pots and don’t need them, The Wedge Garden will take them. Here is a picture of the size we are looking for.
