Eggplant Parmigiana Verde Recipe Shared by Katie and Claudio from NCSU

One of our favorite things about the garden is making recipes with whatever we have growing the the garden. Here are a few photos of Eggplant Parmigiana Verde.  This dish was made by Catie McEntee, who runs the SOUL Garden at NCSU and Claudio Kriegel, NCSU Sustainability Steward.
Currently, we are growing eggplants, banana peppers, hot peppers, green bell peppers, herbs, & tomatoes. If you would like to try a dish and share the recipe with us, come by the garden on Saturday morning and get some fresh produce.

True Communal Gardening

The Wedge Garden is a true communal garden where neighbors garden together and harvest together. We even receive help from neighbors we have never met. Wes is one of those neighbors. Wes is the Co-Founder of GreenRoots Environmental Design.  

Wes has delivered three large loads of mulch to the Wedge Garden in the past nine months and never asked for a carrot.  In fact, I just met him today for the first time. This is true communal gardening, where neighbors help neighbors even before they meet.

Thank you, Wes for being a great neighbor! Wedge Garden is a communal garden open to everyone from any neighborhood. Feel free to come by on Saturdays and garden with us to build camaraderie or to just get your hands dirty and feel the earth.

Nutrition Video Project on the Wedge Garden

Anne Pursifull is a student at NC State studying nutrition. In her current community nutrition class, she was asked to create a three minute advertisement about a community partner whose mission is to improve the community's food security. Anne has asked us if she can do her video project on the Wedge Community Garden, because the garden shares fresh produce with neighbors, those in need, and volunteers. Anne would like to interview community members who have gardened at Wedge Community Garden, volunteered to grow food, and received shares of  the harvest.  Anne would like to get your perspective on the garden.  

We will be reaching out to community members to see if you are interested in answering Anne's questions.  Anne looks forward to meeting all of you!

More onions, garlic and shallots!

Carlos helped us prepare a bed for some more onions, garlic and shallots. Last year we harvested 65 lbs of onions. This year we want to plant even more!

Thank You for the Pine Straw!

Ron is a neighbor of the Wedge Garden. A few weeks back he stopped by the garden and said he loves what we have done to the garden and wished he had time to help. We mentioned to him that not everyone needs to work in the garden to help.  He asked if there's anything he can get for the garden to show his support.

We mentioned pine straw would be great for the herbs and perennial flowers through the winter months. We were at the garden this morning and noticed a pile of pine straw. Thank you, Ron for supporting the Wedge Garden!

Rainy Saturday Morning Workday

We had a fun but rainy morning working in the garden. Come out and work with us on Saturday mornings from 9:30-12 or Wednesdays at 5 to help plant our fall veggies.

Donated 200 lbs of Produce to Plant a Row for the Hungry

The Wedge Community Garden started out with donating 26 lbs of onions, garlic, and shallots in April.  Then in May, we set a goal to donate 200 lbs of produce to Plant a Row for the Hungry by December 31, 2014.  We were all super charged with the goal! With the help from Haven House youth, in just five months, we were able to donate 200 lbs of organic produce to Plant a Row for the Hungry.
